The Black Box International Theatre and Dance Festival is held each year from May 30 to June 15 in the city of Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
The first festival edition was held in 2007, since then the  Black Box features innovative theatre and dance companies from all over the world, presenting 160 performances and events from more than 31 countries and four continents so far.

The festival is organized by the Black Box Foundation, in partnership with the Municipality of Plovdiv and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria. Bulgaria’s foreign embassies and cultural institutes also play an active role in co-organizing the event.
The Black Box ITDF is on the official cultural calendars of the Ministry of Culture and Municipality of Plovdiv.

The Black Box International Festival is a curated event, with artists being invited to perform by the festival.

Given the high demand, projects and programs are often developed with companies and individual performers several years in advance.

If you think you or your troupe has something new, exciting and original to bring to the Black Box Festival, email us your proposal at, including a short artist bio, performance synopsis, past festival appearances and a video link of your production.
